Hosted Exchange
The most common form of email used by small and medium businesses is called POP (Post Office Protocol) email. POP is the standard email that is provided to users. It works by retrieving your email from a mail server and delivering to an email program, such as Microsoft Outlook. Every time you check your email using POP, any new messages on the server are downloaded and saved to your hard drive without leaving a copy on the server (Unless specified to do so). POP mailboxes also do not include or have only very basic built-in virus or spam filtering.
What is Hosted Exchange?
Hosted Exchange is a brilliant service that utilises Microsoft Exchange technology and incorporates comprehensive anti-spam and anti-virus functionality, as well as regular offsite backups of data, to provide businesses with a more reliable and secure email location. All your email information is stored on a central Exchange server. When you check your email, your computer contacts the server via a secure connection to show you not only your new emails, but also your previously downloaded mails.
There is nothing more convenient than having all your emails, calendar and contacts synchronised and readily available on all of your devices. If you are away or travelling, you can still access your email from anywhere in the world via web access.
So what if some of my mail accounts don’t need to be on exchange?
Not a problem at all! You have the option of a hybrid solution, some accounts on POP and others on exchange. If you don’t need or want any exchange account, then simply have them all on POP, the choice is totally yours. |
